Metrolink is a tram/light rail system in Greater Manchester. The network consists of 7 lines, running 57 miles of standard-gauge track, which radiate from Manchester city centre through to some of the district’s satellite towns.

Environment & Power Technology (EPT) provide Metrolink with a complete air conditioning maintenance contract. This includes pre-planned preventative maintenance and rapid response services for all of Metrolink’s depots and offices.

The Solution

The air conditioning units serve the offices and important support equipment such as the machinery situated in the CCTV Monitoring and Control rooms and Data Centres. Thus, the smooth and continual running of the air conditioning units enables Metrolink to safely operate its service for travellers across Greater Manchester.

EPT’s effective maintenance of the air conditioning system, means that energy is used more efficiently and equipment is assured of a longer life expectancy. Our services are thereby helping Metrolink save money on their energy costs and lower their carbon emissions.

The Outcome

The introduction of a pre-planned maintenance programme ensured that Metrolink were fully compliant with UK law. In addition, this also helped to lower power consumption and therefore reduced Metrolink’s carbon footprint and energy bill. Finally, through PPM we were able to ensure that any warranties remained in tact.
